General Questions
Can I register at the conference?
On-site registration is available. Prices are $680 for adults and $495 for youth.
What should I wear? What will the weather be like?
Please dress comfortably. Dress for conference events is "business casual." Traditional national dress is welcome. Business casual, traditional native dress, and other evening wear are appropriate for the Awards Celebration on Friday, March 26. March temperatures in San Jose are usually 47-67degrees Fahrenheit (8-19 degrees Celsius). Some off-site visits and projects may be held outdoors, so bring appropriate outdoor attire.
Are there places to eat near the hotels and convention center?
Yes, there is quite an offering of restaurants and shopping within blocks of the San Jose Convention Center.

When will I find out about my scholarship application?
Letters will be sent out to all applicants by January 8, 2010. We recommend that you register for the conference, and if you are awarded a scholarship, we will send you a check for your scholarship award amount.
How do I sign up to volunteer?
In the true spirit of service, volunteers make the conference run. Please visit our volunteer section for details.

What are the conference hotels?
Special conference rates are available at the Marriott, Fairmont, and Hilton San Jose hotels.

How do I make my hotel reservations for the conference?
To receive special conference hotel rates, you must book your rooms through the conference hotel bureau. Please do not contact the hotels directly.
Will my group’s hotel rooms all be on the same floor?
If you require multiple hotel rooms on the same floor, request that upon reservation or check-in. Due to the volume of attendees, the hotels cannot guarantee that all rooms will be next to each other.
Can I pay for my hotel with a check or purchase order?
To book a hotel online, you will need a credit card. If you need to pay by check, please use the hotel reservation form. Hotels may accept purchase orders if you contact them directly, but conference rates will not apply.
Conference Questions
Can I earn CEUs at the conference?
Please check with the agency that awards CEU credits for teachers in your state to find out what they require to earn CEUs at a conference. If you need information or supporting paperwork from the conference staff please send an email to nslc@nylc.org.
Can I earn graduate credits at the conference?
NYLC and Viterbo University have teamed to provide an exciting opportunity for participants at The National Service-Learning Conference. Participants are now able to register to receive a graduate level credit from Viterbo University for just $90.00. Completing the graduate credit requires attendance at conference workshops and forming plans to integrate what has been learned at the conference into your professional practice. What meals are included with registration?
• Wednesday, March 24: Welcome Celebration
• Thursday, March 25: continental breakfast and lunch
• Friday, March 26: continental breakfast, lunch, State Farm Awards Celebration
• Saturday, March 27: continental breakfast and lunch
When will I get my conference badge and materials?
All badges must be picked up on-site. The program guide and other materials will be available at the conference at the “Material Pick-Up” booth in the registration area.
How do I know what's going on each day?
You can find a schedule and information about conference events in the Schedules and Highlights section of this website. At the conference, you will receive a program guide with a schedule of all events. An electronic copy of the program guide will also be posted on the conference website in March.
Where will the workshops be held?
All of the conference's workshops will be held in the San Jose Convention Center and the San Jose Marriott. At the conference, check your program guide for details.
What's the Exhibit Hall?
The Exhibit Hall is the conference epicenter, hosting exhibitors' booths, a service-learning bookstore, entertainment, the service-learning showcase, and on-site service-learning projects.
